SUMMARY:Care for the Homeless
DESCRIPTION:The “Care for the Homeless” initiative of SATYANANDA MATH – Amba ®  began on December 21\, 2022\, with the aim of supporting vulnerable social groups\, especially homeless individuals and others in need in the port area of Piraeus. \nThe initiative takes place every Monday afternoon and expands during special periods such as Christmas\, New Year\, and Easter\, offering warmth\, care\, and human connection. \nEach meal is complete and nutritious\, prepared with fresh vegetables\, olive oil\, and high-quality ingredients. It includes a main dish\, salad\, bread\, fruit\, dessert\, and bottled water. \nAt the same time\, essential support items are distributed\, including clothes\, shoes\, and personal hygiene products such as shampoo\, shower gel\, baby wipes\, and other necessities. \nDuring the winter season\, warm clothing\, blankets\, and sleeping bags are also distributed in order to provide greater warmth and comfort to those in need. \nEvery meal and every offering is a small yet valuable act of care that strengthens dignity\, support\, and hope for people facing hardship. \nThe initiative is carried out entirely through volunteer participation and the support of companies and private donors\, ensuring stable and high-quality assistance while offering compassion and hope to those who need it most. \nCare. Share. Love.\nThis is our way of  supporting the less privileged sectors of society.

SUMMARY:Yoga for People with Cancer Experience and their Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:SATYANANDA MATH – Amba ® offers free yoga classes for cancer patients and those in recovery\, as well as for their caregivers. \nThis initiative began in 2013 in Thessaloniki\, in collaboration with ALMA ZOIS\, and continues today in collaboration with Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK)\, offering a safe space for support\, empowerment\, and inner balance. \nThe classes are based on the Satyananda  system of yoga and include physical postures (asana)\, breathing practices (pranayama)\, deep relaxation (Yoga Nidra of the Satyananda system )\, and meditation techniques. All practices are adapted to the needs of participants at every stage of treatment and recovery. \nPurpose of the Initiative \nOur aim is to cultivate a positive attitude and inner balance\, qualities that contribute meaningfully to the healing process. \nThrough the practices of Satyananda Yoga\, participants are encouraged to develop awareness on physical\, mental\, and emotional levels. \nThe practices support individuals in relaxing\, strengthening themselves\, and finding inner stability\, regardless of the stage of treatment. \nBackground of the Initiative \nThe initiative began in March 2013 with the first “Yoga and Health” classes\, in collaboration with Alma Zois Thessaloniki (Association of Women with Breast Cancer)\, and has continued steadily ever since. \nFrom the beginning\, the goal has been to support people facing cancer at every stage through the practices of Satyananda Yoga. \nThe classes are led by experienced yoga teachers who have themselves experienced the illness\, offering specialized practices both for people undergoing treatment and for those in recovery. \nThe 90-minute classes are offered free of charge once a week. \nAs participation increased\, different levels of practice were created in order to meet the needs of all the participants. \nDevelopment of the Initiative & Collaborations \nDuring the COVID-19 pandemic\, the classes continued online for two years\, creating a stable network of support and connection among participants. \nThrough this initiative\, a strong support framework was developed\, contributing significantly to the empowerment of people during a particularly demanding period of their lives. \nThis online network played an essential role in strengthening the morale of those experiencing cancer. \nSince May 2023\, the initiative has expanded further through collaboration with the Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK)\, offering free in-person and online classes. \nThis collaboration continues today\, alongside special events and activities organized in cultural and creative spaces. \nThis initiative is a space of care and connection\, where each person can move at their own pace\, experiencing safety\, support\, and acceptance.

SUMMARY:Yoga for People with Down Syndrome
DESCRIPTION:Yoga is an exceptionally beneficial activity for people with Down syndrome\, as it offers holistic support for physical\, cognitive\, and emotional development. Due to its adaptability\, yoga can respond to the individual needs of each person\, contributing significantly to an improved quality of life. \nThe White Butterflies Foundation hosts people with Down syndrome and other developmental challenges. In the winter of 2025\, teachers of the Satyananda  system of yoga began offering weekly one-hour classes to the adult participants of the foundation.  The classes continue consistently throughout the year\, bringing joy\, movement\, and peace to the participants. \nPhysical Benefits \nYoga postures (asana) help strengthen muscles\, improve muscle tone\, stabilize the joints\, and enhance balance and motor coordination. Regular practice also contributes to weight management and metabolic regulation. \nMental and Emotional Benefits \nYoga is not only physical exercise; it is also a powerful tool for mental and emotional wellbeing\, strengthening the participants’ self-confidence and self-esteem. \nBreathing techniques (pranayama) enhance concentration\, memory\, and cognitive flexibility. Focusing on the breath calms the nervous system\, reduces anxiety\, and helps manage stress and emotional fluctuations. \nStructure of the Classes \nEach class is organized in the form of a story\, within which practices of asana\, pranayama\, relaxation\, meditation techniques\, and basic references to yamas (social disciplines)  and niyamas (personal disciplines) are integrated. \nThis approach is inspired by the philosophy and literature of Satyananda Yoga\, particularly: \n\nMicheline Flak\, Children Who Succeed (Estia Publications)\n(Micheline Flak founded the R.Y.E. system – Recherche sur le Yoga dans l’Éducation – which is considered a global model for integrating yoga into education and for people with disabilities.)\nYogic Education for Children\, Volumes 1 & 2 (Yoga Publication Trust)\n\nOver time\, a warm and supportive relationship has developed among the teachers\, participants\, and the foundation’s staff. The experience of Satyananda Yoga has proven to be not only beneficial\, but also a source of deep joy for everyone involved.

SUMMARY:A message of hope\, support\, and trust in life.
DESCRIPTION:In these difficult days\, our hearts are with the families\, friends\, and all the young people affected by the tragic loss of two 17 year-old girls. \nTo every young person who may feel overwhelmed\, alone\, or without hope at times\, we at SATYANANDA MATH-Amba would like to say this: \nYour life is precious.\nYour life belongs to you.\nAnd your whole future is still in front of you. \nNo pain\, no disappointment\, no moment of darkness defines who you are or what tomorrow can bring. Even when life feels heavy\, there is always someone who cares\, someone willing to listen\, and a new beginning on the horizon ahead. \nYou do not need to carry everything alone. Speaking\, sharing\, asking for help\, or simply reaching out is not weakness\, it is courage. \nMany young people today carry invisible emotional burdens\, anxiety about the future\, loneliness\, pressure to succeed\, fear of disappointing others\, or feelings they cannot easily express. As a society\, we need to find ways to create more spaces for listening\, understanding\, connection\, and hope\, so that no young person feels alone in their pain. \nWithin each of you lives a unique light\, a strength\, and a possibility that the world needs. Give yourself time. Give life a chance to unfold. Things can change. Hearts can heal. New meaning can emerge even after the most difficult moments. \nSATYANANDA MATH-Amba sends a message of hope\, support\, and trust in life. \nMay every young person remember:\nYou are valuable. You are unique. Life is a precious gift. \n– Swami Sivamurti Saraswati

SUMMARY:Shelter for battered Women women ‘Phoebe’
DESCRIPTION:Phoebe is a women’s shelter which offers its services to abused women and single mothers\, providing assistance and accomodation. SATYANANDA MATH – Amba works with the shelter in order to support their invaluable work\, offering material and financial assistance on a monthly basis. \nPhoebe was originally set up to provide accommodation and assistance to women released from prison to enable them to re-assimilate into mainstream society. Today\, it has evolved into an Association offering shelter to women with financial and social problems as well as providing refuge to abused women. Women from different ethnic backgrounds\, religions\, and races are welcome with their children. The shelter can host up to 15 people at a time and social workers\, a psychologist\, and vocational rehabilitation is provided. Times are hard with massive unemployment and rampant inflation which makes the running of the shelter more challenging. Despite no government assistance being provided\, the shelter survives with support from volunteers and contributions. The local council of Holargos-Papagou supports the shelter  providing priority to the residents when visiting the hospital and offers the Town Hall for certain events as well as some small financial assistance.\nThe shelter’s vision is that if everyone chipped in a little\, the world would be a better place. \nSATYANANDA MATH -Amba\, lends a helping hand by offering material goods (food\, detergents\, personal hygiene items\, household equipment\, toys\, and sweets for the children) together with financial assistance on a monthly basis. In 2020\, a brand-new wheelchair was purchased for a nine-year-old paraplegic girl at the shelter. Throughout the difficult times of lockdown\, SATYANANDA MATH – Amba assisted by covering the basic needs of the residents every month.\nSupporting Phoebe Women’s shelter is a worthwhile project because it looks after the most vulnerable members of society. It is even more significant today as according to European statistics\, Greece ranks third in Europe for domestic violence and abuse of women \nDonate
