SUMMARY:Shelter for battered Women  women ‘Phoebe’
DESCRIPTION:Phoebe is a women’s shelter which offers its services to abused women and single mothers\, providing assistance and accomodation. SATYANANDA MATH – Amba works with the shelter in order to support their invaluable work\, offering material and financial assistance on a monthly basis. \nPhoebe was originally set up to provide accommodation and assistance to women released from prison to enable them to re-assimilate into mainstream society. Today\, it has evolved into an Association offering shelter to women with financial and social problems as well as providing refuge to abused women. Women from different ethnic backgrounds\, religions\, and races are welcome with their children. The shelter can host up to 15 people at a time and social workers\, a psychologist\, and vocational rehabilitation is provided. Times are hard with massive unemployment and rampant inflation which makes the running of the shelter more challenging. Despite no government assistance being provided\, the shelter survives with support from volunteers and contributions. The local council of Holargos-Papagou supports the shelter  providing priority to the residents when visiting the hospital and offers the Town Hall for certain events as well as some small financial assistance.\nThe shelter’s vision is that if everyone chipped in a little\, the world would be a better place. \nSATYANANDA MATH -Amba\, lends a helping hand by offering material goods (food\, detergents\, personal hygiene items\, household equipment\, toys\, and sweets for the children) together with financial assistance on a monthly basis. In 2020\, a brand-new wheelchair was purchased for a nine-year-old paraplegic girl at the shelter. Throughout the difficult times of lockdown\, SATYANANDA MATH – Amba assisted by covering the basic needs of the residents every month.\nSupporting Phoebe Women’s shelter is a worthwhile project because it looks after the most vulnerable members of society. It is even more significant today as according to European statistics\, Greece ranks third in Europe for domestic violence and abuse of women \nDonate

Departures are on Thursday 14 July at 10.00. \nGuru Poornima is a time to remember one’s guru with love and gratitude. A time to connect with guru\, to honour and to celebrate the guru’s presence in our lives. \nThe five days program will include various discourses\, yoga sessions\, Yoga Nidra of the Satyananda System of Yoga\, chanting\, pujas\, havan\, kirtan with Tarana from Croatia and meditation practices. \nSwami Sivamurti Saraswati will be giving a series of Satsangs in honour this auspicious occasion. \nDuring these days there will also be a Caravan Serai (bazaar) with a great many attractions and surprises for all age groups. \nGuru does not mean a teacher\, professor or trainer. The guru may not give you theoretical knowledge or guide you in matters of mystery and mysticism. He may not be able to give you a religion or religious teaching. This is also very important for all of us to understand. The pleasures that are fleeting and temporary are not the truth. The happiness which you get from the world is relative\, it is dependent on your friends\, on money and other things\, but there is a permanent state of experience called ananda.
