Description
It is with great pleasure that this year Satyananda Math-Amba will be publishing a book about the Journeys of Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati throughout Greece, concentrating on the thoughts of this great Yogi on the ancient Greek philosophers and the Greeks themselves, as he expressed them during his visits to Greece. Swami Satyananda knew ancient Greek philosophy in depth and took every opportunity to connect the Greek public to its roots.
He was convinced that modern Greeks should remember their origins and retrieve from their memory the values propagated by philosophers such as Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Diogenes, Epictetus and so many others, which have been a source of influence in both Western and Eastern thought for centuries. Through his references to the relations between Greece and India, he sought to highlight the cultural connection between these two countries and to express India’s appreciation of Greek culture.
Swami Satyananda visited Greece eight times between 1978 and 1985. He traveled to all the major Greek cities giving hundreds of lectures to both intimate and wider audiences, and countless interviews to the Press, both printed and televised, all the while taking the time to meet in person everyone who wanted to know him.
